Area of Study: THEATRE
Session 2: July 8 – July 20, 2012
Grades: 4 – 12
Special Requirement: Letter of Recommendation
The Theatre Department offers a rich and varied program for the serious theatre student. Theatre students study acting technique from three outstanding professional actors who are also excellent teachers.
The three theatre classes will explore movement, script and character analysis, vocal technique, improvisational technique, and story theatre (group improvisational storytelling). These classes strike a balance between “focus/discipline” and “creative/individual” expression. Each morning begins with group warm-up which includes vocal, mental and physical exercises.
Advanced theatre students have the opportunity to work on scenes which will be performed on the last Wednesday night of the session. Scenes are chosen for students so they will increase their knowledge of dramatic literature, stretch their emotional responses, and broaden their range for character portrayal. All theatre students have the opportunity to perform before their peers in performances during the session, and for parents and friends in the final performance in Smith Auditorium.
