Session 2: July 8– July 20, 2012
Instrument requirement: Piano or Guitar (proficient skill level)


Lennon and McCartney, Billy Joel, Dave Mathews, Sarah McLachlan, John Mayer – Have you always dreamed of adding your name to the list of great songwriters?   If you already play piano and/or guitar, then this course is for you!

Songwriting students will learn the basic techniques and skills used in composing music and writing popular songs.  Students will have the opportunity to record their songs while at camp.  All students must be able to play either piano or guitar proficiently (play basic chords).  Guitar students must bring their own acoustic guitars; pianos are provided by YMA.

Registration is limited to the first twelve students.  This program is open to students who have finished grades 6-12. A prepared audition piece will be required on opening day.

YMA: Young Musicians & Artists is not a traditional teen summer camp. YMA is a 2 week residential summer camp for teens and young adults focusing on the visual and performing arts. Young Musicians & Artists is an Oregon summer camp specializing in the areas of: Band, Choir, Songwriting and Composition, Creative Writing, Dance, Theater, Musical Theater, Orchestra, Digital Photography, Piano and Visual Arts. During the two week summer programs, these subjects are taught by professional instructors from around the region. Students join YMA's summer camps for professional instruction, teen leadership training and a residential camp experience. YMA is Oregon's premier residential arts program and has been since 1965.
