Theatre Instructor – Steve Boss
Most recently, Steve assistant directed, played the Ghost and the Player King, and composed the melody for the Gravedigger’s song in a multi-site production of Hamlet performed on the island of Alcatraz with We Players of Oakland, CA.
As an Actor for over 20 years, other productions include The Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing, Richard III, Othello and King John by William Shakespeare, bobrauschenberg.america by Charles Mee, Honus and Me by Steven Dietz, After Ashley by Gina Gionfriddo, Tales of Ordinary Madness by Petr Zelenka, Beyond Therapy by Christopher Durang, Shivaree by William Mastrosimone, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee, and Look Homeward, Angel adapted by Ketti Frings.
As an Education Artist he has directed Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Antony & Cleopatra at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA; Much Ado About Nothing at De La Salle High School for Portland Playhouse; and explored Shakespeare in speeches, scenes, fight, auditions and basic acting with students and actors at Newton-Conover H.S., Fred T. Foard H.S., Sherrils Ford Elementary, St. Stephens H.S., Mt. View Elementary, South Caldwell H.S. and Hickory Community Theatre in Hickory, NC. Steve was involved with Portland’s Haven Project: putting Theatre Artists one-on-one with kids, from 1995 to 2001 as a mentor, actor, composer, musician, director and stage manager. He has been awarded a Hickory, NC Education Artist Grant, Portland Regional Arts and Culture Council Technical Assistance Grant and Portland Drama Critics Best Supporting Actor Award.
