Violin Instructor – Hannah Leland
Hannah Leland is completing her first year as a Masters of Music student in Violin Performance at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon in May of 2010. There, she acted as first violin of the Waller String Quartet, concertmaster of the University Chamber Orchestra, and acting assistant concertmaster of the Salem Chamber Orchestra. In her senior year, she was given the University Orchestra Director’s Award for leadership and service. During her time at Willamette, Miss Leland spent a year abroad studying the violin at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in Shanghai, China. There she performed in several orchestras and chamber ensembles that gave concerts in Shanghai and nearby cities. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Miss Leland began violin lessons at the age of eight. She studied with Cynthia Scott in the Suzuki Method, then Carol Sindell, Mary Rowell and Nelly Kovalev before beginning her undergraduate studies with Daniel Rouslin. She has performed in numerous master classes for artists such as Andrés Cárdenes, Rolf Schulte, David Ehrlich, the St. Lawrence String Quartet and Pacifica String Quartet. She has attended many summer festivals throughout her career includingthe Britt Festival Chamber Strings Academy in Ashland, Oregon and MeadowmountSchool of Music in Westport, New York. After completing her Masters degree, Miss Leland hopes to continue her studies and pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts. In addition to her studies, Miss Leland teaches violin lessons, regularly substitutes in the Boulder Symphony Orchestra and works withthe young violinists of the Greater Boulder Youth Symphony.
